Can we ever feel safe?

Missing woman Gillian Meagher and the ordinary circumstances surrounding her disappearance have instilled a sense of shock and disbelief in the Australian public.

Jill Meagher, 29, an ABC radio worker was last seen on Sydney Road in Brunswick on CCTV footage in the early hours of Saturday morning following work drinks at Bar Etiquette the night before.

It is feared that Ms Meagher was met with foul play during her short, five minute walk from Sydney road to her apartment on Lux Way, shared with husband Tom Meagher.

What is so frightening about the events surrounding Jillian’s disappearances is the ordinariness of them. A young girl has drinks on a Friday night. Her apartment is a five minute walk away, a journey that is predominantly flooded with brights lights, loud music and a bustling of activity and people.
